The Lesson
My Google Docs Lesson went a lot better than I expected it to. The lesson as I mentioned before was about the food chain process and the students had to work in groups to figure out different food chains and then they would each type their answers and unanswered questions in each group. Thankfully, the teacher already had the class separated into four groups and the students named their own teams, so the teams are The Lakers, The Eagles, The Steelers, and The Packers. As they worked in teams, I was surprised to see that some did not work well in teams, but they eventually got the hang of it. The Google Docs part went well because they each had to type in a part of the food chain and then they each typed in one of their higher order thinking questions, which they call at this school, an unanswered question. I was able to immediately tell that they struggled with the typing and even knowing some of the basic computer skills. Apparently, they do educational games on the computer, but they do not usually do much typing. The students were really excited to work on the computers and I was happy to see that they each accomplished their part of the assignment. Overall, it was a good lesson, but I do think that the students need more practice and teaching of how to use a computer or even some basic computer skills, so that they can have a better understanding of a lesson that incorporates using a computer.
