The Lesson

My Google Docs Lesson went a lot better than I expected it to. The lesson as I mentioned before was about the food chain process and the students had to work in groups to figure out different food chains and then they would each type their answers and unanswered questions in each group. Thankfully, the teacher already had the class separated into four groups and the students named their own teams, so the teams are The Lakers, The Eagles, The Steelers, and The Packers. As they worked in teams, I was surprised to see that some did not work well in teams, but they eventually got the hang of it. The Google Docs part went well because they each had to type in a part of the food chain and then they each typed in one of their higher order thinking questions, which they call at this school, an unanswered question. I was able to immediately tell that they struggled with the typing and even knowing some of the basic computer skills. Apparently, they do educational games on the computer, but they do not usually do much typing. The students were really excited to work on the computers and I was happy to see that they each accomplished their part of the assignment. Overall, it was a good lesson, but I do think that the students need more practice and teaching of how to use a computer or even some basic computer skills, so that they can have a better understanding of a lesson that incorporates using a computer.

Thinking about my Google Docs Lesson

I'm a bit nervous about this lesson because I'm not that great with technology, so I'm praying that I am able to explain everything well. The good part is that my lesson is science and teaching the food chain, so I think it will be fun a fun lesson for the students! On their group work, they will put a food chain in order and then they will answer a higher-thinking question and will answer all of that on a worksheet. will each be typing a part of the food chain on Google Docs and typing an unanswered question, which they always have tons to ask. I've been thinking a lot about this lesson and I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Pre-Google Docs Lesson Plan

I've been working really hard on a Science lesson plan for my 3rd grade class and I will be using Google Docs in this lesson. The students will be learning about the food chain and working in groups to help put the correct order of the food chain together, then they will answer some higher-thinking questions. On Google Docs, each group will have a computer to use, and on the program, each student in the group will take turns writing the correct animal in the food chain. They will each also type up an unanswered question they may have or a detail they learned about the lesson that they would like to share. I'm a bit nervous to use the Google Docs in my lesson because I'm not very good at using technology, so I'm really hoping that the lesson goes good and that the students will learn what they need to know.

Voice Thread

We are learning about a bunch of new programs that I've never heard about and surprised with all of these amazing programs! Voice Threads seem to be a program where you like look at a picture and hear a voice that talks about it, which is crazy; I had no idea that there was such a program. I like how the students get to talk about their thoughts about their pictures and its a great way for them to express themselves because some struggle with writing about it. Its so cool that you can hear and have them share their work; its so amazing to see such creativity.

Google Docs

I've never used Google Docs or heard of Google Docs before this class. When we were first talking about it, I was completely confused with what it is and how to use it. It's still kind of confusing, but its really cool that you can share documents and have your own documents. It's kind of weird how you can see what you're working on and what others are working on at the same time; pretty high tech to me. I know it will take me a while to get the hang of it because I'm not great with technology, but I'm glad I get to learn about it and see what its all about.

Blogs

Blogs are great because it allows one to express their thoughts about a subject and others can read about it and share their thoughts. I've heard that people blog, but I never thought I would blog or that there would be something interesting to write about. Now that I get this opportunity to blog, I think it will be an interesting experience and it's cool checking out other people's blogs and seeing what they have to say about some of the same topics.

HOTS for 3rd Grade

Third grade is such a great age group to work with and they are very open-minded to trying new things, especially when it comes to using technology. Using a blog is a good way for them to write about what they are learning in class or to discuss learning experiences. They could blog about a classroom project or write about a recent book they checked out from the library. Blogging in a classroom is a great idea for the students to connect with each other's  thoughts and the teacher can see how they are growing through this creative writing practice. There is a really cool blog about a third grade class who blogs about different activities that give great blogging topics. HOTS is going into deeper thoughts and helps one to be more expressive and I think blogging is the perfect practice of that.
